Chair Repair ~

It's 9:30 at night and I just started painting. I got 7 or 8 things primed and ready to go for tomorrow morning. It is in the 100's this week and way too hot to paint. So it's late nights and early mornings for painting. I will paint everything in the morning around or 6 or so.  Jealous?

I thought I would share something I found a few years ago that has worked wonders for the chairs I purchase.

Do you have spindle chairs that need tightening, or rungs below the chair?
Or any other dining room chairs that need help?

Save your money on a professional.  For around $7.00 or so and you can save all your chairs.

 with TITE CHAIR!
This stuff is awesome! It is superflue for chairs. It dries clear and makes your chairs rock solid. It doesn't matter if the chairs are painted or naked wood, it is great.  It comes with a tip to apply in the cracks. You can clamp your chairs after applying, but you really don't have to. Tite Chair just seeps into the cracks and dries pretty fast.
I use this on every chair I buy to make surethey are sturdy.

Just don't tip it over while storing, it will dry out fast. I'm not crazy about the way it comes and wish it had a cap to prevent drying out, but I still use it and love it.

I have not found this in any store other than a True Value store.
I just thought I would share a great product that might help save your chairs.

you're welcome!

Junk Finds ~

While in MI my Mom and I shopped about 25 yard sales. There were 15 sales in my Grandma's neighborhood alone!

It was raining the morning of the sale, but we ventured out anyway and at 7am hit a neighbor with a ton of books! I know, just what I need. I did get a bunch of cookbooks for a $1.00 a piece. These I can put right in my booth.

Here are some pictures of my finds. Not staged very well, but I had to get it all unloaded and "processed" in between working my real job and working at the antique store.  It has also been extremely hot and humid this week and I haven't painted anything. I think I have to move some projects inside and paint them in the A/C. Just what I need in my house, more junk. But I won't get anything done if I don't.

Yup, $3.00 for the set of pyrex bowls. The giant shells are pretty cool too..

The 2 yellow ware bowls were the biggest steal. I paid $1.00 for both of them and a turquoise vase. My Mom was standing behind me trying not to faint. Love them!
Love the hobnail creamer and sugar too. I love mini's.

Wood Penguins!

A great fan that still works.

I just bought the lamp base. I had the shade at home. I buy good shades wherever I go because they are so expensive to buy new, and I HATE paying retail. I think I paid $1.00 for the shade and $2.50 for the base. Cute right?

An iron pedestal

A piece of leather luggage for $.25. Yes, that is twenty five cents, she only wanted a dime, but I splurged!

3 curling irons.  I love the painted handles

This is the heaviest and awesomest buffet. This is the top. Needs a ton of sanding if I keep the original wood, but we'll have to see how all this paint splatter comes off. The guy I bought it from said it had been in his Mom's basement since he was 6 years old. The paint is from when he decided to be helpful and paint the basement, when he was 6 years old. Not a good thing. But good for me!

Great details

For some reason, I couldn't upload the correct position of the picture. This piece is currently in storage on it's side, you'll just have to turn your computer sideways to see it. I had to put it storage because I can't lift it or maneuver it by myself, and it weighs a ton. It is sold oak, from the heaviest trees grown...

great hardware, I'll just clean it up and put it back on.

The entire piece looks like this; paint splattered.
So there will be a ton of sanding involved.  But It's probably one of my favorite pieces. When I picked this up (after 3 days) he had a table that hadn't sold. He knew I was looking at that too, but I decided on the buffet only, but it was there and he didn't want it so it came home with me - FREE!

The thing to the right in the picture is another project that we'll pretend isn't there...

So a good trip to MI all around.
Great family time, great shopping, Hen party, and the weather was wonderfully cool.

Now I have to get busy!

Lake Michigan farewell ~

As promised, here are more pictures of Lake Michigan. I love to go off on my own and take pictures of wherever I might find myself.  Spending a week in Michigan 3 minutes from Lake Michigan, I found myself there a few times and can't get enough of it.  Enjoy the views.

I'll be back tomorrow with pictures of all my great finds from MI. I came home with a packed truck again, so it's back to work tomorrow. My paint misses me!

I'm back ~

After a whirlwind week in Michigan, I am back at home and swamped with unpacking and organizing my loot.  It took me and my Mom about 16 hours to get home.  At 1:30 am we fell into bed at my house, and then I had to take her home to Augusta, GA.  My Dad had my dog (and spoiled her rotten with new dog food, a new bed for his truck and lots of treats!) so I had to pick her up anyway, and my office is there so we could get caught up with work.

Very tired Finn!

I have another secret (not really) stash of furniture, at our warehouse, and I finally got a look at the $15 dollar buffet they bought me on the GA 90 mile yard sale. It's PERFECT and will be great painted.  Here is the gross part:  It was infested with bugs and roaches.  My Dad had to hose it down several times and clean out the drawers just to be able to bring it into the warehouse. YUCK!

Can't you just see the potential?

See? Not bad at all. It is missing one of the bell handles, but I have some extra at home so no big deal.   I Love it. It's old, real wood and can be used as a dresser or buffet.
I just need to get it home and start working on it, right after I do 1000 other pieces. Hopefully not!

My parents have turned into pickers!  Last year, they came home from Michigan with 2 benches, a small table and a weathervane and it all has sold, after being painted up cute like, by moi!

I didn't know what to expect for $15, but they did great.  I have more pics of Lake Michigan that I will make you suffer through tomorrow, and you will LOVE it!

Glad to be home. Wish I was still in MI.

Michigan! ~

I am in Michigan!
Couldn't say before since it was a surprise to my cousin, who just graduated from high school. My Mom and I just showed up at her party. Amazing that no one found out in this age of Facebook and other nosy sites.
This is the place of my birth and and many visits since moving away when I was 14.  I still consider this home, although I can't move back since I am allergic to the snow!
The summers here are gorgeous and the temperature has been just perfect this weekend. It is 53 degrees this evening and a little chilly forcing me to wear a sweatshirt!
Back home in SC, it has averaged about 97 degrees and miserable.

Tonight I went to Lake Michigan to watch the sunset. That is my favorite place on earth and wish I could stay forever. I never go to the beach without thinking of my Grandpa, who died 3 years ago. My brother and sister and I would each spend a week with my Grandparents every summer when we lived in Michigan.  We would go to the beach just about every day and walk the pier and look for money. On a good day you would find at least a dime or nickel.

USS Ironsides

Love everything about the beach and Lake Michigan.
I will be back in the morning for one last look before heading home on Wednesday.

This past weekend my Mom and I headed out yard 'sailing' and hit about 25 sales in 3 hours. It wasn't looking too promising that morning when It started to rain. But it slowly cleared up and off we went. Got a truck full of good junk and cant wait to get it all out and into my booths. I'll take pictures of it all once I get it unloaded. I still need to pick up an oak buffet that is at a neighbors house.

It has been a very busy visit and tomorrow we have a full day planned as well.

GO TIGERS!
