Little Mountain Reunion ~

Today was the hometown festival called the Little Mountain Reunion. It's a chance for all those from Little Mountain to come home and visit.  It's a small festival, but the parade route runs right in front of the Corner Store and More Antiques. 

So it was a good oportunity to open early and be there for the early traffic.

Funny story about Walt McLeod..Years ago, my Dad was driving my Mom's Mustang and was messing with the radio.  While he was distracted, the car veered to the right and BAM! He crashed into Walts campaign manager's car.  Oops!  I think my Dad was only going about 20 mph or less.

Walt could not have been nicer and still remembers this when I see him periodically.

He lives right down the street from the Corner Store too.

Little Mountain is a very small town with only one blinking light!

But 2 Antique stores!

What would a parade be without beauty queens?

I just wanted to tell her to sit up straight, and stop slouching!

and cub scouts..

And Harley's...

And the staple of every Southern parade: JOHN DEERE!

um...I have no words......

I have some paint in the car..??..

again, no words.....

My friend Kenny was driving the van and throwing candy. He missed me.

FINISHED!

Do you hear that? Angels are singing and I am rejoicing!

The Hutch from Hell is finished!

It is finished and delivered.

I re-painted it my OOPS Grey paint and I spray painted the back of the hutch white.

After all I went through on this piece, I am glad it is done and I must say, I do love how it turned out.

It just took way too long. 

Let's just look at it a while longer and smile....

A Sneak Peak ~

Ok, the Hutch from Hell still isn't finished, but it is getting closer!  It is in the truck and will be in my booth tomorrow.  I will be so happy when that is finished. I have never had so many setbacks on a piece.

It truly has me ticked off. I bought new screws for the hardware and was 2 short. Yeah, I can't count.  

  Then, to add insult to my wounded ego, I needed washers so the screws wouldn't pull through the holes, WHO KNEW?!  

My nephew helped me dig through a bin of junk screws and nails for enough washers to get us by.

However, I am looking forward to the next project ~

I started painting the newest dresser I just acquired.

A few months ago, Glidden was giving away free quarts of paint. I got 5!

I called my family and had them each get me a quart. 

I love paint and I love free, so what could be better?

The color I used on this chest is Vintage Yellow. 

The dresser was primed and painted with 2 coats of paint with one more to go. 

The pictures don't show how bright the yellow is. Think sunshine yellow. It was a real shock when I saw it today, since I painted it in the dark warehouse, at night.  But I think after a coat of dark wax, it will be great. I have to say, I liked the paint. I'm a Behr paint girl, but I liked the Glidden. 

These handles were on the chest when I got it, and I like them.  

I think they will go well with the yellow paint. They have a light blue flower in the them.

I should have the finished tomorrow too.

All pictures were taken with my new smart phone too since I forgot my camera. :(

But I think they turned out pretty well.

Welcome to August ~

Where oh where is this year going?

I thought I would have the finished pictures of the china hutch today, but sadly no.  This has been the most frustrating project.  I can't wait until it is finished and out of my head!

This was me tonight:

From the terrible first paint job, the bubbling paint from the heat, and re-painting it.

Painting the hardware and having it separate, stripping the paint off, and repainting it.

Then tonight, I went to re-attach the hardware and can't find the screws.

I usually put all hardware in a plastic bag and label that bag according to the project.

But somehow, I lost the screws.

All the more frustrating when the piece you are working on is not at your house where all your supplies are. So you try to load up what you think you will need, but when you miss something, it just stinks.

So it is still unfinished until I get to the hardware store and replace the screws.

ARGH!

However, this field of sunflowers are still blooming and always makes me feel better!

Not everything always goes smoothly, but I still love re-doing furniture and knowing at the end of a horrible project, you have a great looking finished product.

Look for the finished product tomorrow! (I hope)

Update on my Failed Paint Job ~

First, the dresser I bought on Friday is still in my truck.

I just didn't have the energy to get it out. Not to mention, it's so heavy that I need help..

The dudes that loaded it left the drawers in it, so it's full on heavy.  I'll work on that problem tomorrow.

I finished painting the Hutch that was posted about here.  I had to repaint the whole thing and then I heavily distressed it to give it some character.  The pictures are a little dark because it was 10 at night and in my warehouse storage area. 

I still have to re-paint the back of the hutch part. When the hutch was going to be an off white, I painted the hutch backing a French Grey.  Well, that wouldn't work since I had to re-paint the darn thing.  So I will paint this in the morning and re-attach it. 

The bad paint job wasn't the only OOPS to this piece. I was impatient and painted the hardware oil rubbed bronze without cleaning them.  NOT A GOOD THING!  The paint bubbled and looked terrible.  This is another reason why it took me so long to get this done. I had a mental block about fixing all my mistakes.  But tonight, I dumped the hardware in a bowl of paint stripper and got all the junk off the handles.

Now, I will PRIME the hardware and then PAINT them the correct way and finish this piece TOMORROW! I would have finished it today, but I had to work.

Another Dresser ~

I can't help myself.

My purchases outweigh my finished products.

But I can't pass up great deals on great pieces.

I am a furniture addict!  

I need help.

I need to get my rear in gear and get some furniture painted!

It has just been so hot and it's difficult to get motivated. It was 101 today!

This is awesome.

All the drawers are in tact. They don't fall down in the back.

There are no gauges in the top. It doesn't stink (very important.)

The only problem is; the wheels are missing. But I think I can live with that.

It is still a great dresser and with a little bit of paint, it will be awesomer!

The couple I bought this from lived on a 4 acre farm and I got a tour of their barn and out buildings.

Pet the goats, horses and dogs. I didn't get to feed the chickens, but they were cool too.

I had to stay away from their 4 cats though. I am allergic to them, and I didn't feel like wheezing tonight.

I think I'm going back for this gem in the morning.

I am sick.......

The Help

You MUST read this book! I can't wait to finish it and then see the movie. I just hope the movie lives up to the book.  Movies usually don't, but I can still hope!

Skeeter and the black maids conspire to write a book called The Help.  

Skeeter is recording the stories of the maids and will compile them into a book in hopes of changing attitudes of society.  It's sweet, funny, sad, and so good, you must read!
