Downtown Columbia ~

I took a truckload of junk down to my booth at Worth Repeating and took the opportunity to go to the state house.  I have lived here for 20 years and had never stepped on the grounds. Usually every school age kid takes a trip to the state house, but I was in elementary school, and middle school in Michigan. My high school years were in Florida.  I went to the University of South Carolina, which is downtown, but still never took the time.  I love downtown Columbia and the history of the state including when the firebug William Tecumseh Sherman burned the state capital in 1865 on his way North.

It was a gorgeous day, but very hot and humid

each bronze star represents a connon shot. there are six of them

copper dome

magnolia flower. the gardens are beautiful

cone flowers

hydrangea bushes

the confederate flag that was finally removed from the dome

My next stop was the best ever. Mast General Store!
The grand opening was Thursday and it has been packed with people every day.  I hope this store can bring more business to downtown. It deserves better than what is there now. That will have to wait until tomorrow though. Go enjoy the day!

Fresh Junk from the barn and other places ~

I preshopped a few yardsales last weekend before ours started and found some great junk.  I didn't get it all unloaded until last night.  Sad, but true. My car is always full and sometimes it takes me a few days to get to it. I also went and picked a barn and got some great rusty, old, odd and great stuff.

I couldn't live without my Expedition. It is full every weekend and most week days. Usually my dog travels with me, but with it so hot lately, she stays home. She hates the junk.

More skis, this time snow skis

An old hay fork and my toes

Stuff found in the barn. A soap holder and a fan cage (big item) and an iron trivet with claw feet and gears

some enamelware (my favorite), a well pulley and 2 porch column bases. These will look great under a cloche.

Another huge porch column base. I might have to keep this one. LOVE!

I think these are thread cones from a textile mill.

This is a heavy horse head fence topper.

3 funnels together holding rusty nails and such. I think it would be a great Christmas tree!

Farm tools: an axe, log roller and level.  And a large rusty wheel

One of my favorites. A very tall orchard ladder. It is a chippy green color and if it fit in my house, I would keep it, but it is a little too tall for my vaulted ceiling. :(

This is an old butter churn that rocks back and forth on the metal stand. Very cool!

This would look great on your wall and the teeth are still in it!

A very long measuring stick. Long jump measurer?

Green bucket and another piece of porch slavage

I found this mirror frame at a thrift store. It is large and would be great with a chalk board inside.

A buggy step

A cricket keeper and another porch base. This was heavy

This is from a fireplace cover. The paint is chipping off, but you can still see the girl. I hate to take the rest of the paint off, but it is flaking badly.

You like? I LOVE! I have most everything cleaned up and ready to go to the shops. It will definitely be a busy weekend. I have a ton of projects to get done and lots to paint. Here are my birds:

Not too much longer and they will fly away.
I need to cut the bushes where the mockingbirds are, so the sooner the better

My what big eyes you have; better to see all the junk!

Have a wonderful weekend and remember what we are celebrating. Happy Memorial Day!

A little bit of this, a little bit of that..

This weekend was busy, hot, and full of treasure hunting.  What could be better than that? Started off with a yard sale on Saturday morning. This time I was holding one with my Mom. I did get out first thing and shopped a few others in the neighborhood. We got rid of a lot of junk, sorry, treasures, and donated the leftovers to Goodwill. Too much junk is not a good thing and I'm glad it is gone. My Mom got rid of a ton of junk too. My stuff was treasure, hers was just junk! Just kidding!  I Love You Mom! But it was nice to get rid of all the extra stuff that turned into clutter.

My birds are growing big, but sadly, not all hatched. I only have 4 birds from 7 eggs. But they are so cute and growing fast.

This was Friday afternoon

And these pictures were from this morning. They are HUGE! Their eyes are open now too.

So the twins are doing well. They sleep all of the time, and always greet me when I intrude to take my pictures.

Then there is this guy who couldn't stand not getting my attention. He came to visit the birds in the wreath.

Hydrangea flowers in an old syrup bucket.  The owners of the antique mall have a beautiful garden and cut these every few days for the shop.

And here is a little taste of my weekend junk finds.  A Dazey churn and a laundry plunger!

I had to work today and didn't have time to take all the pictures of all the good junk... And it is good!  My good friend Jan from Ruffles, Pleats and Paints did an awesome job picking a barn while I was holding the yardsale.  Everything is rusty, old, odd and wonderful!  Pictures tomorrow...  In the meantime, if you are looking for someone to make curtains, pillows, seat covers, slip covers and anything else that uses a sewing machine; email Jan. She is good!

Until tomorrow..
